Montreal Comicon 2016 is behind us. It was a great time, but didn't get to see or participate in very much, the focus was on our corner table. That time investment didn't pay off as well this year as the last, it seems that there were many people who came out despite the periodic rain, the report is over 60 thousand,  (the report for 2015 was over 50 thou,) yet there seemed to be less buyers and more lookers. Not as many people walking around with purchases, I had to make a few deals to make sales. Every year can't be great, however the cost of doing the Montreal Con has us reconsidering options for the Future. Amazingly enough, the Toronto Comicon and the Fan Expo are actually cheaper to participate in. We may be doing them for 2017. I definitely want to do the Cornwall con, the event is called Capes. Small cons have their advantages, predominantly no big name stars with expensive meet and greet packages to compete with. Who knows what the future holds, whatever works best for promotion. Speaking of which, we touched base with Dexter, who has taken to my work and talking about it to others with great enthusiasm. He is looking forward to another project I have called Sagant (Pronounced Say-gent). I am posting a few pix for Mon Con 2016:

Thats soon to be married Jason Glowa with Marie and her husband Thiago, Laurie and myself.

I still don't have as much merchandise as I would like, but my portfolio is growing, and I am quickly catching up to where I want to be.

My work on Blond World continues, even though for the last 6 months I have been focusing on beefing my portfolio, showing what I can do with established characters, and original works created as posters. That and continuing to seek help in getting this condition balanced, Both are a slow go. The coloring for me is important, and I want the 'look' and 'feel' of Blond World to be a step above the rest. Here are some examples of whats coming, I am coloring Blond World 1 - 6, I will be releasing them all at once when they are done!

Here's the difference that color makes. Art work you see here is at various stages, ergo incomplete. I only got caught up to the 21st century with computers and graphic arts in 2009, Been learning alot since, education is a continuous ongoing process. The results are coming along, and before the end of 2016, all 6 Blond Worlds will be done!

I have B & W versions of Blond World 1 - 3 printed and am selling them at the Con. I have a colorized e-version of Blond World 1 available on disk as well.

My table # at the Montreal Comicon is 1701.

I have a recurring theme that I seem to gravitate towards in my work, I take retro images, characters, and I 'redo' them in an 'updated' fashion, like the Rocket Robin Hood tribute image I did. I take the old and make it look cool! They had a very cool character called Infinata that also appeared on the original Spider-man 1960's cartoon. He was from another dimension called dimentia 5 (Whatever that was) I did an image of him as well. He is a very cool design. I jazzed him up in my own way. You can that image as well as the Rocket Robin Hood image in my previous post. I keep things looking Comicbook-like, but rendering them in Cover Art quality. If I had the bucks, I would love to do an updated animation movie of Rocket Robin Hood, or Ultraman (Although this is apparently being done in Japan, you can see a promo clip on YouTube.)  I've done a few Adam West Batman and Ceasar Romero Joker images, making it look as cool as it does in the comics.

Here's another example:

I still have to update a website I have, as soon it's to my satisfaction I can link it to this blog. Just to advise, any who are reading this who would like to purchase cool art, I do requests and commissions. I usually do one or two at each Comicon. If you have any requests, don't be shy! If you want to contact me via e-mail my address is :  sid.vane@gmail.com

Progress has improved since the last Con in continuing my work, both on Blond World and my portfolio, trying to get help with my Bipolar condition remains a slow go.  I am now working on pencil drawings for the Con, I will post my table number once I have the lay-out of the event.

Montreal Comicon 2015

Comicon 2015, the con of Ultraman. I will refer to this con as that because this was the most popular item I had.

This was the 4th Con we have been to, each one being more amazing to be a part of. I managed participating in it as well as the 2014, with my Bipolar condition, but each time we're there we make more money, and more contacts.

I loved this show as a kid. It was amazing how many people knew who this was. It lasted many years, like the Power Rangers, each season showed a different incarnation or version of them, Ultraman was the same. There are dozens and dozens of different Ultramen. I've seen a few episodes that came after the original, they just got sillier and sillier. The  first Ultraman will always be the best.
This was my 2015 table, my portfolio is growing!

This con I completed a colourized slide show DVD, a suedo E-book version, something I wanted to have at the 2014 Con, but vowed I would have by the next one. Mission accomplished. I will be putting that on You tube once I polish it up, I want to present the best work I can before I let it go 'out there'.

I have added another pre chapter to the story, Blond World 0 (Zero),
featuring more of the Blond Corps, and their struggles, and explores more of who each Sheila is.
There's more work to be done on this, (Still have missing Panels) most of it is sketches and black and white images.

The past 2 years we met up with Nikko Marie, the owner/creator of Cos Culture magazine. This year my wife Laurie and I were photographed by their professional photographer, for their face book page I'm guessing. These are the images;

The top picture has Nikko on the left, Spock Vegas is next to her, Laurie then myself. I didn't realize it was a 'Vulcan' style picture, I was extremely tired, and posed in a way that it wouldn't show. The moral of the story?,….PAY ATTENTION Ya stupid…

So, getting to my efforts at self publishing,..it's slow going. Not because of closed doors, or lack of opportunities, but because of me. Having Bipolar Disorder and social anxiety has prooved to lesson the quality of life considerably. Combine that with bouts of insomnia, and having to pay for Expensive meds, my focus for most of 2014 was to become 'balanced', finding the right medication to alleviate what I'm feeling so I can participate in life without feeling it to be a painful experience, By that I mean working a full time job, going to stores that I really don't want to goto, but being married to someone who can't drive makes that hard to avoid. My going to these cons are trepidatious, but I do enjoy them while I'm there.
As I mentioned in another post, I will not be focusing on all that. I have another work in progress entitled; 'Fractured Superiors, A Bipolar Confession' to deal with my experiences with BP. I am writing this to hopefully help others who're experiencing this miserable life altering anvil in a haze fog. I mention it to explain the slow progress I have made for 2014. Where I am now is where I should have been in 2014. My plans are to get more vids made for You Tube and Google plus, and reconnect properly with Comic Art Comissions, Linked -In and reformat Blond World into a real E-Comic book for Cloud Nine. I plan on doing more shows, and will be refocusing on the website for Paragraffx to concentrate solely (for now) on Sid Vane Art, and my graphic arts novel.

I will be working on the art of Book 0, as well as writing out Blond World 5.

I have other accomplishments that I haven't posted here as yet, I will take care of that this week.

Posted below are some of the 2015 Montreal Comicon cos players..they add ALOT of excitement to these events, and are as much a part of the Con as comics.
